Pinergy raised its residential electricity prices by 7.6% on . Pinergy says a typical bill rises 7.6%. The 24-hour standard rate goes from 41.77c to 45.80c/kWh (up 9.6% on the unit rate) with the standing charge unchanged. The pay-as-you-go plan we track is priced at 10% off that standard rate.
Pinergy's tariff page lists the new pricing as effective from 14 September 2026: the 'all other times' unit rate on its Lifestyle smart tariffs moves from 41.77c to 45.80c/kWh inc VAT (38.32c to 42.02c ex VAT), while the urban standing charge stays at €283.47 a year.

The bill change on this plan (8.3%) can differ from the headline 7.6% because the supplier quotes its headline for the standard plan, while a percentage discount applied to a higher standard rate moves by less in cents.
What it means for a typical home
A home using 4,200 kWh a year, the CRU's typical urban figure, pays about €169 more a year on the Pinergy plan we track once the change lands: roughly €14 a month or €3.26 a week. The annual bill moves from €2,038 to €2,207.
Use more and the gap widens: at 6,000 kWh the same rates add about €242 a year, and at 3,000 kWh about €121. The standing charge part is the same however much you use.
What to do now
If you are out of contract, compare the market before 14 September 2026: every supplier's new-customer discount is applied to its own standard rate, so the cheapest plan today may not be the cheapest once rivals' rises land. On the tracked plan the change adds about €169 a year at 4,200 kWh. Pinergy charges a €215 early exit fee if you leave inside the 12-month contract, so check your contract end date first. If you stay, ask Pinergy for its best existing-customer offer rather than rolling onto the standard rate.

Does solar help?
A price rise only applies to the units you buy from the grid. A typical 4.4 kWp rooftop system offsets roughly 40 to 60% of a home's imports over a year, more with a battery, so the share of your bill exposed to Pinergy's new unit rate shrinks by about the same amount. Surplus is paid for under the Clean Export Guarantee, which Pinergy pays at 18.50 c/kWh.
