Energia Price Increase October 2026
Energia is raising its residential electricity prices by up to 9.4% from . Electricity and gas prices rise by up to 9.4%. The new-customer 24-hour rate we track goes from 29.85c to 30.45c/kWh and the urban standing charge from €265.01 to €278.27.
Energia's own notice puts the electricity increase at 4.73% on the average annual bill (about €1.67 a week) with the electricity standing charge up 5%, gas at 9.38% (about €2.74 a week) and dual fuel at 6.73% (about €4.41 a week), based on 4,200 kWh of electricity and 11,000 kWh of gas a year. It is Energia's first gas increase since 2022.

The bill change on this plan (2.5%) can differ from the headline up to 9.4% because the supplier quotes its headline for the standard plan, while a percentage discount applied to a higher standard rate moves by less in cents.
What it means for a typical home
A home using 4,200 kWh a year, the CRU's typical urban figure, pays about €38 more a year on the Energia plan we track once the change lands: roughly €3 a month or €0.74 a week. The annual bill moves from €1,519 to €1,557.
Use more and the gap widens: at 6,000 kWh the same rates add about €49 a year, and at 3,000 kWh about €31. The standing charge part is the same however much you use.
If you are in contract
Energia says discounted contracts are affected too: your percentage discount stays the same but is applied to the new, higher standard rates, and the change gives you a right to terminate.
What to do now
If you are out of contract, compare the market before 12 October 2026: every supplier's new-customer discount is applied to its own standard rate, so the cheapest plan today may not be the cheapest once rivals' rises land. On the tracked plan the change adds about €38 a year at 4,200 kWh. Energia charges a €50 early exit fee if you leave inside the 12-month contract, so check your contract end date first. If you stay, ask Energia for its best existing-customer offer rather than rolling onto the standard rate.

Does solar help?
A price rise only applies to the units you buy from the grid. A typical 4.4 kWp rooftop system offsets roughly 40 to 60% of a home's imports over a year, more with a battery, so the share of your bill exposed to Energia's new unit rate shrinks by about the same amount. Surplus is paid for under the Clean Export Guarantee, which Energia pays at 18.50 c/kWh.
