An independent energy price comparison for Ireland: what every Irish electricity supplier would charge you over the next twelve months, on your own usage. For a typical Irish home using 4,200 kWh a year, the cheapest new-customer 24-hour plan today is Electric Ireland at about €1,593 before the PSO levy, and the most expensive tracked plan is Flogas at €2,154. Announced October price rises change that order, so the calculator below weights them by the days you would spend on each rate. Adding a 4.4 kWp solar system cuts a typical bill by roughly €900 to €1,100 a year.

Year-one cost on each supplier's 24-hour plan and, with a smart meter, every verified day/night/peak and EV plan: band rate × your kWh in that band + standing charge + PSO levy, less any welcome credit and solar export income, with announced price rises weighted by the days you would spend on each rate. EV charging is placed in each plan's cheapest window and, if you tick it, the battery is charged from the grid overnight to displace peak-rate usage. 1. Your usage
A single kWh figure is spread across the year and the day using a typical Irish household shape. The smart meter file gives the exact half-hourly picture, including how much you use at night and in the 5pm to 7pm peak.
2. Every supplier's plan
Each supplier is priced on the new-customer 24-hour urban plan we verify on its own website: unit rate × kWh, plus the standing charge and PSO levy, less any welcome credit. Where a rise has been announced, the year-one cost is weighted by the days before and after the change.
3. Solar on top
We overlay a modelled solar profile for your county on your usage, hour by hour and month by month, to work out how much you would use directly, how much you would export at each supplier's Clean Export Guarantee rate, and the net bill. The system cost and SEAI grant give the payback.

Why the comparison shows solar next to switching
Switching supplier moves a typical bill by €100 to €300 a year, and the gain shrinks when the discount expires. A solar system removes 40 to 60% of the electricity you buy for 25 years or more and earns an export credit on the rest. That is why every result above pairs the cheapest supplier with the bill you would have after installing panels. When the two are side by side, most homes find the solar saving is three to five times the switching saving.

Irish Electricity Price Changes 2026
Every announced change we have verified on the supplier's own site, newest first, with the date it takes effect. The rates on this page were last verified on 28 Oct 2026 and show the current price until each change lands.
- Yuno Energy
New-customer Variable Discount Plan repriced. The 24-hour urban rate went from 34.85c to 39.10c/kWh and the urban standing charge from €219.22 to €264.73; Variable Smart became 41.39c day, 26.08c night, 47.65c peak. Yuno's EV Standard Smart plan closed to new customers on 16 October, and Yuno's pricing page says a winter price freeze on electricity and gas runs from 13 October 2026 to 1 March 2027. source

Electricity unit rates rose 4.73% and gas 9.38%. The standard 24-hour rate went to 43.50c/kWh and the urban standing charge from €265.01 to €278.27. With the combined new-customer discount now 26% (it was 30%), the 24-hour rate we track went from 29.85c to 32.19c/kWh. The EV Smart Drive charge-time rate rose to 12.25c/kWh after the 10% discount. source

Electricity unit rates up 9.1% and standing charges up 7.2% (typical bill +8.8%). Standard 24-hour rate 41.59c to 45.38c/kWh; urban standing charge €244.76 to €262.38. The new-customer discount is now 28% (it was 26%), so the 24-hour rate we track went from 30.78c to 32.67c/kWh. source

Electricity rose around 9%: the standard 24-hour rate went from 41.13c to 45.00c/kWh. Top Discount 24-hour rate 28.79c to 31.50c/kWh; urban standing charge €263.86 to €279.99. source

CRU-approved 2026/27 network charges added about €41.25 a year (€3.44 a month) to a typical domestic electricity bill after the regulator trimmed network revenue allowances by €138 million. Every supplier passes these charges through. source

PSO levy cut by 66% for the 2026/27 levy year, to €0.51 a month for domestic customers (€6.12 a year ex-VAT, €6.67 inc VAT, down from €19.10). It is charged by every supplier, so it lowered every bill by the same amount. source

Pinergy said a typical bill would rise 7.6%. The 24-hour standard rate went from 41.77c to 45.80c/kWh (up 9.6% on the unit rate) with the standing charge unchanged. The pay-as-you-go plan we track is priced at 10% off that standard rate. source

Electricity price comparison: frequently asked questions
Is this an official CRU-accredited comparison?
No. The CRU accredits switching websites such as bonkers.ie, switcher.ie and powertoswitch.ie, which can move your supply for you. This calculator is an independent editorial comparison of each supplier's published new-customer plan. Use it to see who is cheapest for your usage and what solar changes, then switch through the supplier directly or an accredited site.
Does the calculator include smart meter and EV plans?
Yes. With the smart meter box ticked it prices 19 verified day/night/peak, EV-window and single-rate smart plans alongside the 24-hour plans, using your hour-by-hour usage. A typed annual figure is spread with a standard household pattern; a smart meter file uses your real pattern. Enter your EV charging in kWh per day and it is priced in each plan's cheapest window, and a battery can be set to charge from the grid overnight to displace peak-rate usage.
What happens to the price after the first year?
Every discount plan reverts to the supplier's standard variable rate after 12 months, usually 20 to 30% higher than the discounted rate. The year-one cost shown here includes any welcome credit and the announced price rises. Compare again a month before the anniversary.
How accurate is the solar estimate?
Generation uses PVGIS satellite yields for your county on a south-facing roof at a typical pitch, spread across months and hours with a standard Irish profile. Self-consumption comes from overlaying that on your usage shape hour by hour. A real system on an east-west roof or with shading will produce less; a home that runs appliances during the day will use more directly. Treat the payback as a range of plus or minus a year.
Does uploading my smart meter file share my data?
No. The file is parsed inside your browser and is never sent to our server, so your MPRN, meter serial and readings stay on your device. Only the totals you see on screen are computed, and nothing is stored.
Where do the rates come from and how often are they checked?
Every unit rate and standing charge is taken from the supplier's own tariff page and cross-checked against two independent tariff datasets. They were last verified on 28 Oct 2026, and every announced change is listed in the price-change log on this page with its effective date.
