Waterford's position on Ireland's south coast, combined with the shelter provided by the Comeragh and Monavullagh mountains to the north, creates some of the best solar conditions in the country. The coastal strip from Tramore to Dunmore East and east to Dungarvan records particularly high sunshine hours. Waterford City itself sits in the sheltered Suir Valley, protected from Atlantic weather, and consistently records sunshine levels 5-7% above the national average.
