Roscommon's dispersed rural population and one-off houses

Roscommon has one of the most dispersed populations in Ireland, with a high proportion of one-off rural houses and bungalows. These properties are typically detached with large, unshaded roofs and generous gardens, making them ideal for both roof-mounted and ground-mounted solar systems. The lack of neighbouring buildings means shading is rarely an issue. Many of these rural homes were built in the 1970s-1990s with large south-facing roof areas that can accommodate 4-6kWp systems comfortably.
