South Tipperary, centred on Clonmel, Cahir, and Tipperary Town, sits within the Golden Vale, a sheltered fertile lowland stretching along the Suir and Aherlow valleys south of the Galtee Mountains. This area receives above-average sunshine and below-average rainfall compared to north Tipperary. Properties around Clonmel consistently generate 5-8% more annually than equivalent systems in Nenagh or Roscrea. The Golden Vale's dairy farms also have the county's strongest uptake of agricultural solar under TAMS III.
