Kilkenny's tillage farms and solar synergy

Kilkenny is one of Ireland's top tillage counties, and grain drying is one of the most energy-intensive farm operations. Solar panels generate peak electricity during the July–September harvest period, exactly when grain dryers are running. Several Kilkenny tillage farms have installed 20–40kWp systems specifically timed to offset drying costs, with TAMS III covering up to 60% of the capital cost. The county's large, well-oriented shed roofs are ideal for farm solar installations.
