Quick Answer

To find a commercial solar installer in Ireland, compare at least three quotes from companies that are on SEAI's registered list for the Non-Domestic Microgen Grant and have references for systems of your size. Check who handles the ESB Networks connection and the structural assessment, and make sure each quote states the kWp, the expected annual generation and the grant deducted. Commercial solar costs €600–€1,700 per kWp installed.

Types of commercial solar companies in Ireland

Not every solar company is set up for commercial work, and the right fit depends mostly on the size of your system. Commercial solar energy providers in Ireland fall into three broad groups.

Specialist commercial solar PV installers

Design and build companies that work mainly on business premises, from 30 kWp up to 1 MWp. They have in-house design, handle grid applications routinely and are usually the right choice for warehouses, factories and large farms.

Residential installers who take on small commercial

Many domestic installers also fit 10–30 kWp systems on shops, offices and small workshops. They can be competitive at this size. Ask for commercial references before trusting them with anything larger.

Energy suppliers and funded-solar providers

Some electricity suppliers and funders install the system at no upfront cost and sell you the power under a long-term agreement. You save less per kWh than if you own the system, so compare a funded offer against a purchase quote. See solar panels with no upfront cost.

How to choose a commercial solar panel installer

Price matters, but on a system that will run for 25 years or more the cheapest quote is rarely the best one. These are the checks that separate experienced commercial solar panel installation companies from the rest.

What to checkWhy it matters
SEAI registration for the NDMGThe grant is only paid on systems installed by a company on SEAI’s registered list, and approval must come before work starts
References at your system sizeA 150 kWp factory roof is a different project from a 6 kWp house. Ask for two or three completed sites of similar size and call them
Grid connection handled in-houseYour installer should prepare the ESB Networks NC6 or NC7 application and specify EN 50549 compliant inverters. Grid capacity, not roof space, often caps the system
Structural assessmentThe roof has to carry panels plus mounting or ballast. Confirm who commissions the engineer’s report and whether it is in the price
Design based on your consumption dataA good installer asks for your half-hourly or interval meter data and sizes the system to what you use during daylight, not to the roof area
Insurance and safetyPublic liability and employer’s liability cover suited to working at height on a live commercial site, plus a site-specific safety plan
Warranties and aftercarePanel, inverter and workmanship warranties in writing, with monitoring and an operations and maintenance option once the system is live

What a commercial solar installation quote should include

Quotes are only comparable when they cover the same scope. Before you weigh one commercial solar installation company against another, check that each quote states the following.

System and performance

  • System size in kWp and number of panels
  • Panel and inverter make and model
  • Expected annual generation in kWh
  • Estimated self-consumption and export split
  • Mounting system and roof layout drawing

Price and scope

  • Total price excluding and including VAT
  • SEAI grant amount deducted, shown separately
  • Grid connection application and any ESB Networks fees
  • Structural survey, scaffolding and access
  • Switchboard or metering upgrades, if needed

Temporary increase: for applications from 7 October 2026 to 6 July 2027 the NDMG is doubled, to a maximum of €325,200. SEAI pays the lower of the doubled per-kWp rate or 45% of the invoiced cost, up from about 23% of the cost of installation. The NDMG figures on this page are the standard rates, so a new application in that window can get up to twice as much. Applications made before 6 October 2026 are not increased. See what the 45% rate means.

As a benchmark, commercial solar panels in Ireland cost roughly €600–€1,700 per kWp installed, with smaller systems at the upper end. The SEAI Non-Domestic Microgen Grant then takes up to €162,600 off at the standard rate. Our commercial solar cost tables show typical prices by system size, and the commercial solar grants guide covers rates and eligibility.

Questions worth asking

  • How many systems of this size have you installed in the last two years?
  • Who submits the grant and grid applications, and when?
  • What happens to the price if ESB Networks limits our export?
  • Do you use your own crews or subcontractors on the roof?
  • Who do we call if the inverter trips in year six?

How commercial solar panel installation works

Whichever installer you choose, a commercial project follows the same stages. Work on site typically takes 2–6 weeks; the applications before it take longer.

StageWhat happens
1. Quotes and site surveyInstallers review your bills and meter data, survey the roof and switchroom, and price a design
2. Grid applicationYour installer applies to ESB Networks under NC6 for small systems or NC7 for larger ones. Start this early, as it is often the longest wait
3. Grant applicationThe NDMG application is made to SEAI and must be approved before any work starts
4. InstallationMounting, panels, inverters and cabling, usually without interrupting your operations
5. Commissioning and grant claimTesting, certification, monitoring set-up, then the paperwork for the grant payment

Requirements differ by premises. See the guides for warehouses, factories, offices, retail, hotels and farm buildings, or the full list of commercial solar by building type.

Commercial Solar Installers FAQ

How do I find a commercial solar installer in Ireland?

Tell us about your premises, your electricity bill and your location, and we match you with commercial solar installation companies that cover your county and have installed systems of a similar size. You then compare their quotes side by side. It is free and there is no obligation to accept any quote.

Does my installer need to be SEAI registered for commercial solar?

Yes, if you want the grant. The SEAI Non-Domestic Microgen Grant (NDMG) is only paid on systems installed by a company on SEAI's registered list for the scheme, and the grant must be approved before work starts. Confirm registration before you sign anything.

Can a residential solar installer do a commercial installation?

Some can, particularly for small systems of 10 to 30 kWp on a shop or office. Larger systems bring three-phase design, a structural assessment, an ESB Networks NC7 application and export limiting, so ask for references on projects at your scale rather than relying on domestic experience.

How many commercial solar quotes should I get?

At least three. Commercial solar quotes for the same site can differ by tens of thousands of euro because installers size the system differently, specify different panels and inverters, and treat grid connection and structural work differently. Comparing like for like is the only way to see which price is fair.

How long does a commercial solar installation take?

The work on site typically takes 2 to 6 weeks depending on system size and roof complexity. The overall project is longer, because the SEAI grant approval and the ESB Networks connection application both have to be in place first.

How much do commercial solar installation companies charge in Ireland?

Commercial solar panels in Ireland cost roughly €600 to €1,700 per kWp installed. Small 20 kWp systems sit at the upper end per kWp and 500 kWp systems at the lower end. A 50 kWp system typically costs €40,000 to €75,000 before the SEAI grant.
