Who Are Trina Solar?

Trina Solar was founded in 1997 and is headquartered in Changzhou, China. They are one of the world's top three solar panel manufacturers, having shipped over 170 GW of panels globally. Trina Solar is listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange and is a consistent member of the Bloomberg NEF Tier 1 list.

In Ireland, Trina solar panels are the third most commonly quoted brand after Jinko and JA Solar. The Vertex S+ N-type range offers slightly higher wattage and efficiency than its main competitors, making it a strong all-rounder.

Trina Vertex S+: The Panel Irish Installers Use

The Vertex S+ is Trina Solar's current flagship residential panel and the model you are most likely to be quoted by an Irish installer. It uses N-type TOPCon cell technology — the current industry standard that replaced older P-type PERC panels.

The Vertex S+ is built on Trina's 210mm cell platform with innovative 1/3 cut cell technology (rather than standard half-cut cells). This design reduces resistive losses and improves shade tolerance, giving the Vertex S+ a slight edge in partially shaded conditions.

Standard (440W)

TSM-NEG9R.28 series. 440W output, 22.3% efficiency. Standard residential option with excellent value.

High-Power (445W)

TSM-NEG9R.28 series. 445W with 22.5% efficiency. The most common model installed on Irish homes. Same footprint as the 440W.

Commercial (580W+)

Vertex S+ commercial series. 580W+ bifacial panels for commercial and farm installations. Larger format for ground mounts and flat roofs.

How Do Trina Solar Panels Perform in Ireland?

With approximately 1,100 kWh/m² of annual solar irradiance, Ireland has more than enough sunlight for solar to work well. Trina panels suit Irish conditions for three reasons:

Low-Light Performance

N-type TOPCon cells perform better in diffuse (cloudy) light than older P-type panels. The 1/3 cut cell design further improves shade tolerance.

Higher Wattage

At 445W, the Vertex S+ delivers 5W more per panel than Jinko and JA Solar equivalents. Over 10 panels, that's 50W extra — modest but measurable.

Bifacial Gain

The Vertex S+ is bifacial, capturing reflected light from the rear. Best gains on ground-mounted or flat roof systems with light-coloured surfaces.

A typical Irish home with 10 × Trina 445W panels (4.45 kW system) can expect to generate approximately 3,900–4,300 kWh per year, depending on orientation and shading.

Trina Solar vs Jinko Solar: Which Is Better?

This is a common comparison for Irish homeowners. Both are Tier 1 N-type TOPCon manufacturers. Here is a head-to-head comparison:

Verdict: Trina offers slightly higher efficiency (22.5% vs 22.3%) and wattage (445W vs 440W), but Jinko has a longer performance warranty (30 years vs 25). Both are excellent — the difference is marginal. Choose whichever your installer stocks.

Where Are Trina Solar Panels Made?

Trina Solar manufactures panels primarily in China, with additional facilities in Vietnam and Thailand. Panels installed in Ireland are typically manufactured in China or Southeast Asia. All panels sold in the EU must comply with IEC 61215 and IEC 61730 standards and carry CE marking.

Trina Solar Warranty: What's Covered?

Trina Solar offers a dual warranty structure:

25-Year Product Warranty

Covers manufacturing defects, including cell degradation beyond normal limits, delamination, junction box failure, and frame defects. Trina will repair or replace defective panels.

25-Year Performance Warranty

Guarantees the panel will produce at least 87.4% of its rated output after 25 years. Note: this is 5 years shorter than Jinko's 30-year performance warranty.

Note: Warranty claims are made through Trina Solar's European office. Your installer should assist with any warranty claim.
