JA Solar DeepBlue 4.0 Pro: The Panel Irish Installers Use

The DeepBlue 4.0 Pro is JA Solar's current flagship residential panel and the model you are most likely to be quoted by an Irish installer. It uses N-type TOPCon cell technology — the current industry standard that replaced older P-type PERC panels.

The “Pro” designation indicates the N-type TOPCon version. If you see a quote for a JA Solar DeepBlue 4.0 without the “Pro” label, check whether it is the older P-type PERC version. The N-type Pro model is the one you want.

Residential (440W)

JAM54D41 series. 440W output, 22.4% efficiency. The most common model installed on Irish homes. Standard 1722 × 1134mm size fits most roof layouts.

High-Power (445W)

JAM54D42 series. 445W with slightly higher output. Same footprint as the 440W. Available from some installers at a small premium.

Commercial (540W+)

JAM72D40 series. 540W+ bifacial panels for commercial and farm installations. Larger 72-cell format for ground mounts and flat roofs.

How Do JA Solar Panels Perform in Ireland?

Ireland gets around 1,100 kWh/m² of solar irradiance per year — well below southern Europe but more than enough for solar to work effectively. JA Solar panels are well-suited to Irish conditions for three reasons:

Low-Light Performance

N-type TOPCon cells perform better in diffuse (cloudy) light than older P-type panels. In Irish conditions where overcast days are common, this is a meaningful advantage.

Temperature Coefficient

At −0.29%/°C, JA Solar panels lose less output in warm weather. Ireland's mild temperatures mean panels run closer to their rated output for most of the year.

Bifacial Gain

The DeepBlue 4.0 Pro is bifacial, capturing reflected light from the rear. On light-coloured surfaces this adds 5–10% extra output, though gains are modest on dark pitched roofs.

A typical Irish home with 10 × JA Solar 440W panels (4.4 kW system) can expect to generate approximately 3,800–4,200 kWh per year, depending on orientation and shading. This covers 60–80% of an average household's electricity needs.

JA Solar vs Jinko Solar Panels: Which Is Better?

This is the most common comparison Irish homeowners ask about. Both are Tier 1 N-type TOPCon manufacturers with very similar specs. Here is a head-to-head comparison:

Verdict: There is no meaningful difference between JA Solar and Jinko for Irish residential installations. Both are excellent. Choose whichever your installer stocks — the installer's workmanship and system design matter far more than the 0.1% efficiency gap between these two brands.

Where Are JA Solar Panels Made?

JA Solar manufactures panels across multiple countries. Their main production facilities are in China, with additional manufacturing plants in Vietnam, Malaysia, and Thailand. JA Solar also has a module assembly plant in the United States.

Panels installed in Ireland are typically manufactured in China or Southeast Asia. All panels sold in the EU must comply with IEC 61215 and IEC 61730 standards regardless of country of origin, and carry CE marking.

JA Solar Warranty: What's Covered?

JA Solar offers a dual warranty structure that is now standard among Tier 1 manufacturers:

25-Year Product Warranty

Covers manufacturing defects, including cell degradation beyond normal limits, delamination, junction box failure, and frame defects. JA Solar will repair or replace defective panels.

30-Year Performance Warranty

Guarantees the panel will produce at least 87.4% of its rated output after 30 years. If output drops below this level due to manufacturing issues, JA Solar will supplement or replace the panel.

Note: Warranty claims are made through JA Solar's European office. Your installer should assist with any warranty claim. Keep your installation certificate and invoice as proof of purchase.

JA Solar Panels: Frequently Asked Questions

Are JA Solar panels good?

Yes. JA Solar is a Bloomberg Tier 1 manufacturer and the world's second-largest panel maker. The DeepBlue 4.0 Pro N-type panels offer 22.4% efficiency, 25-year product warranty, and 30-year performance warranty. They are widely used by SEAI-registered installers across Ireland.

JA Solar vs Jinko: which is better?

Both are excellent and nearly identical in specs. JA Solar offers 22.4% efficiency vs Jinko's 22.3%, with the same warranty terms. The difference is negligible — choose whichever your installer stocks. Your installer's workmanship matters more than the brand.

Where are JA Solar panels manufactured?

JA Solar manufactures panels in China (main production), Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, and the United States. Panels sold in Ireland comply with EU IEC standards and carry CE marking regardless of factory location.

What is the JA Solar DeepBlue 4.0 Pro?

The DeepBlue 4.0 Pro is JA Solar's current flagship residential panel using N-type TOPCon cell technology. The 440W model (JAM54D41) is the most commonly installed version in Ireland. The 'Pro' designation indicates the newer N-type version — avoid older non-Pro (P-type) models.

How long do JA Solar panels last?

JA Solar panels are warranted for 25 years (product) and 30 years (performance at 87.4% output). In practice, modern N-type panels are expected to last 30–35 years, continuing to produce useful electricity well beyond the warranty period.

What is the JA Solar 445W datasheet specification?

The JA Solar 445W (JAM54D42 series) is a higher-output variant of the DeepBlue 4.0 Pro with the same N-type TOPCon technology. It offers 22.6% efficiency in the same 1722 × 1134mm footprint, with identical 25-year product and 30-year performance warranties.

Does JA Solar make bifacial panels?

Yes. The DeepBlue 4.0 Pro residential panels are bifacial by design, capturing reflected light from the rear side. The larger 540W+ commercial panels (JAM72D40 series) also come in bifacial configurations for ground-mounted and flat roof installations.
